Frequently Asked Questions |
How old do I have to be to fly?
You are never too young to fly. At seven years old, you can begin to learn to fly. You will be able to do everything required to receive your Private Pilot certificate, except solo (fly the plane without an instructor in the plane). All the hours you fly will be able to be logged and counted towards any rating you intend to receive, and your hours never expire. Once you are sixteen, you can solo. At seventeen, you will be able to get your Private Pilot certificate.

What is the complete Private Pilot package, and what does it include?
The complete Private Pilot package is a payment option for receiving your Private Pilot certificate. If you choose this option, you will make one payment that will cover everything you need to be able to earn your Private Pilot certificate. It includes up to fifty hours of aircraft time (you need forty to receive your certificate), all the books you will need, online Jeppessen self-study material, optional group ground classes, and all ground and flight instruction. The only necessary expenses that are not included are the fee for the medical certificate, paid to the certified doctor who gave you the certificate, and the examiner fee for the practical test to receive your license, paid to the examiner. For more information, contact Terry or Sarah Anderson (call or text (770) 228-7759 or email terry@flyboy.biz or sarah@flyboys.biz).

What is a Discovery Flight?
A Discovery Flight is your first flight lesson. It includes an hour of ground time discussing the plane and how it works. Then, you will get to take-off and fly the plane around while receiving further instruction in the air. This portion also lasts an hour and ends with the student setting up the landing and the instructor finishing the landing. Other than giving instruction and ensuring that the student, possible passengers, and himself are safe, the instructor will allow the student to do all of the flying.
|
How long does it take to get your Private Pilot certificate?
Everyone learns at their own pace. The amount of time it takes to receive your license is dependent on how much you study at home and how often you are able to fly. Some students have finished within three months, while other students take longer. The hours you log (you need forty logged hours) never expire so you do not need to rush.
|
How often should I schedule lessons?
In general, FlyBoys Flight Centers suggests you fly two-three times a week. This helps you retain information. Flying less often is not bad; however, it will probably take longer for you to receive your license because you are learning information less often, and you will probably not retain as much information from lesson to lesson. Some students fly every day, even twice a day. If your schedule allows this, it could be a good idea for you, depending on how you learn. For others, this method doesn't work out. Once you begin learning to fly, you instructor will be able to help you decide how often you should fly.
|
What are your hours?
FlyBoys Flight Centers is open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, by appointment. Flights depend on the weather, but, for students, you can still have a ground school lesson even if the weather is bad.
|
Are you open holidays?
Yes, like normal days, FlyBoys is open holidays, by appointment.
|
If my lesson is cancelled due to weather, will I be charged?
If your lesson is cancelled by your instructor due to weather, you will not be charged. If your flight lesson is changed to a ground school lesson, you will be charged for the ground school time, but you will not be charged for plane time (it will only cost you the price of the instructor and not the price of the plane).
